My name is Pegah.

Pegah means Dawn in Farsi. I was born here in Canada, however my family had to flee their homeland, Iran, as refugees due to religious persecution. I am so fortunate to have not faced the severe persecution growing up here. I hope one day I can visit Iran, but until then I am passionate about supporting young people in their learning. Before becoming a new mother this past year, I was working as an Educational Assistant at a middle school in School District #61. It confirmed many of my experiences that I had working alongside youth in community-based educational programs; that young people need to feel loved to thrive and want to learn.

In looking at the course outline, I am really looking forward to learn about what motivates and nurtures the learning process in people. I personally have some experience in supporting youth and children to feel empowered to learn and it’s been really helpful when there is a kind, loving and nurturing environment. A space that hears and sees them wholly has been helpful, and then from my experience, the youth and children are more motivated, even empowered to learn. I am looking forward to explore themes in this course and learn from everybody and the course content.
